Guantanamo Rocked By Injuries

Racing Guantanamo will go into the first match of the B-Liga under a shroud of injuries, shedding doubt on whether the Mighty Orange can possibly win against their fierce rivals, Pearl Coast Pirates.

Captain Andy Smyth has been ruled out with a back injury, while influential midfielder Tim Gray is again out with a calf injury. Defender Ryan Platten is doubtful, with the Northern Irishman still struggling with a knee injury, and marquee man Joe Tighe is also out with the flu.

Kath Dabrowska is also away on international duty, while doubts also remain over the availability of young guns Kane Fitzpatrick and Joel Hamling.

There are however some postitives for the Mighty Orange, with goalkeeper Andy Chapman back in the squad as well as Trinidadian Terry Ragoonanan.

The Tim Gray recruitment machine has also been in action this week, with reports that former Fremantle Docker Tony Delaney, who has played in a couple of games before for Guantanamo, has signed a season-long contract with the club.

The match kicks off at 6pm tomorrow night under lights at Father McMahon Field.

Strappa to Leave?

Mike Strappa has dropped a bombshell on the Mighty Orange only days from the first competitive game of the season, with the composed defender hinting that he may be moving interstate in the next 5-6 weeks.

What this means for the Guantanamo is unknown, but the tough defender had looked strong at the back, and was pushing for a regular starting place.

Kruger Out For Start of Season

Legendary Francois Kruger has been ruled out of Racing Guantanamo's first match of the season with torn ligaments in his right foot.

Kruger, who had been taking part in a friendly soccer game with his son, accidentally caught the ground with his toe.

The freak injury has now thrown Guantanamo's start of season preparations into disarray with the Mighty Oranges now on the hunt for a new goalkeeper.

In the outfield however, Guantanamo look set to have a formidable midfield, with Joe Tighe and Martin Kessler both signing up, as well as young gun Jon Falconer coming back into the squad after a season on loan with the Blue Hypes.

Luke Turner comes back into the squad after his loan with Rambo Caledonian Athletic Thistle to partner up front with Joel Hamling.

In defence, captain Andy Smyth will partner with Ryan Platten and Chris Hingston with the three forming a good understanding over the last two years.

This season looks to be one for the history books as Guantanamo gear up for their assault on the B-Liga championship.
